CRO Enrollments

Low enrollments to trials continued to plague CRO during January.  While we recognize low accruals is a nation wide trend, we are making every effort to increase our participation.  Dr. Kerry Williams met with CRO staff to brainstorm ideas to enhance enrollments.  Several great suggestions came from the session including:
1. Placing a letter into the new patient packets to show physician support of cancer research and

to introduce CRO to the patient.

2. Archival of trials with no enrollments in the past year.

3. Increased efforts to keep CRO investigators and nurse practioners aware of newly open trials

    and those closed each month.

4. Capturing patient screening information in CRO’s CREDIT database for monthly analysis.

5.  Educate primary care physicians and the public regarding clinical trials available through

    CRO.

6.  Explore feasibility of getting more surgical oncology trials at CRO.  All suggestions are being

researched and implemented as possible.  If you have other suggestions please let us know.

CRO Outreach

We hope to have Skaggs and Cancer Cares in Bolivar as affiliates, and ready to enroll to trials by the middle of February.   We are waiting on contracts to be signed and IRB policies to be revised.

Steering Committee meeting on March 22nd

We will be having a CRO Steering Committee meeting on March 22nd.  We are awaiting confirmation of our speaker.  Flyers will be distributed as soon as plans are confirmed.

NSABP Audit

NSABP will be here on April 29th and 30th for their routine 3 year audit.    Internal auditing is occurring at this time specifically with NSABP patient charts.  CRO staff view audits as a means to improve our practices for the good of our patients.

Dr. Carolla SWOG Auditor

Dr. Carolla will be serving as a SWOG auditor at Moffit Research Base on April 27th and 28th.   Knowledge gained from serving as an auditor is very beneficial to CRO as we learn ways to improve our program.

New CRA

Lisa Hamilton has joined CRO as a clinical research assistant.  Lisa is an LPN who previously worked with Drs. Buckner and Woods at Ferrell Duncan clinic where she assisted Dr. Buckner with clinical trials.  Lisa will be doing long term patient follow-up at our administrative office. Welcome to Lisa.
